Photographs of and collected by interior designer Margery Hoffman Smith (1888-1981) of Portland, Or., who is most known for her design of Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood in Oregon. Subjects include photographs taken by her mother, Julia Hoffman; portraits of members of the Hoffman family, including Margery; views of Hoffman family homes; photographs of Margery's furniture designs; and photographs taken by Margery and her husband, Ferdinand C. Smith, during their travels around the world from 1912-1970. Includes negatives and color slides. This collection is unprocessed.

Smith, Ferdinand C.

Ferdinand C. Smith was a native of Germany who settled in Portland, Oregon in the late 19th century. Around 1865 he established an iron works in partnership with his brother Charles Emil Smith. In 1883 the brothers were joined by J. Frank Watson and the firm became the Smith and Watson Iron Works. Smith's grandson, Ferdinand C.
